How AI model picks work
GPT, Claude, and Gemini each independently analyze every game. Here's exactly what they do and what to trust.
What the AI models are
BetMachine runs three large language models — OpenAI GPT, Anthropic Claude, and Google Gemini — on every game we cover. Each model runs independently, with no knowledge of what the other models are predicting.
These are general-purpose AI systems that have been given structured game context: team records, line data, recent trends, and historical matchup information. They output a pick per bet type (spread, total, moneyline) along with an edge estimate and a brief rationale.
How picks are generated
For each game, the model receives a structured prompt containing:
- Team records and recent form (last 5–10 games)
- Current betting lines — spread, total, moneyline
- Home/away splits and venue context
- Historical head-to-head context where available
Each model outputs one pick per bet type, an edge percentage (its confidence relative to the market line), and a short rationale. Picks are generated fresh for each game before tipoff and are not updated after lines move.
What edge% means for AI picks
AI edge% is the model's self-reported confidence relative to the market line — not a walk-forward validated advantage.
BetMachine's edge% is derived from a walk-forward statistical model trained on historical data. AI edge% is a model estimate — treat it as a confidence signal, not a validated return.
A GPT edge% of 6.2% on the spread means GPT estimates a 6.2% probability advantage over the closing line — based on its analysis, not historical backtesting. Use AI picks as additional signal alongside BetMachine's validated model.
Why 3 models, not 1
Each model has different training data, reasoning patterns, and biases. Running all three independently surfaces disagreement that a single model would hide.
When all three agree with BetMachine's pick (3/3 consensus), that agreement across independent systems is a stronger signal than any single model's confidence rating. When they disagree (1/3 or 0/3), BetMachine's pick is contrarian — that context matters for your decision.
